The new extensometer (Zwick, Ulm) lives up to its reputation as this measurement system is indeed a multiple and multi-functional system that can be used for a range of different applications. For example, test data from tensile, compression, flexure and hysteresis tests can be determined both at ambient temperature and in temperature chambers. The multiXtens offers the user highest measurement flexibility and is in a top position whenever it is a question of measurement accuracy and resolution at large test travels.
The multiXtens has two resp. three movable slides on which the measurement heads are mounted and which are very precisely guided by a new developed linear unit (mineral cast). In its basic version, the multiXtens is equipped with two measurement heads allowing test travel measurement of 700 mm. Starting with a minimum initial test travel of 5 mm, the multiXtens determines values with a resolution up to 0,02 µm. Optionally, a reduction in width monitor and a fine precision extensometer can be adapted via the third measurement head. This is of particular importance for metals tests with the determination of the Youngs modulus of elasticity, the determination of r and n values and for the determination of the tensile modulus on plastics.
With the measurement and control electronics testControl the extensometer multiXtens can be operated fully automatically. So it is possible to open and close the sensor arms automatically. Settings on the multiXtens can be simply and efficiently carried out by means of a special remote control unit.
The multiXtens shows its strength mainly during tests on plastics and metals (high resolution at a high elongation). The multiXtens is, in addition, perfectly suitable for testing machines which are multifunctional and used for the performance of numerous different tests, as is the case in materials testing laboratories, research institutes and during quality control procedures of the goods received.
