Power supply for GigE-Vision cameras can be ensured via Power-over-Ethernet – but the cabling problem remains since applications typically require asynchronous triggering. Thus PoE does not reduce cabling costs. Only by transmitting the triggering signal over the same cable – having the camera handle the triggering – the cabling is reduced to one cable. Imago´s Vision Box invented a method to offer Trigger-over-Ethernet and PoE functionality for up to four independent cameras. The triggering jitter is very small and can be as low as 1µs, depending on the camera-model.
