Metrohm presents new method for the determination of toxic arsenic

With the sctrace GoldMetrohm presents an alternative method for the voltammetric determination of toxic aresenic in drinking water which is easier to use and less expensive than the usual spectroscopic methods (ICP-MS, AAS).

This new, screenprinted sensor can be used without any preparation; measuring results are available after only 10 minutes on average, and the detection limit for arsenic is well below the 10 µg/L stipulated by the latest legislation in the US and the EU. The sctrace Gold is simply plugged in the electrode shaft; as there is no preconditioning required, users can start measuring immediately after.

The new sensor is maintenance-free. Once the measuring performance of the sctrace Gold starts to deteriorate (as it is the case with any electrode), the inexpensive sensor is simply exchanged. This ensures reliable results at all times.

Another benefit of voltammetric measurements with the sctrace Gold is the ability to discriminate between different oxidation states of arsenic, notably the highly toxic As(III) and the less toxic As(V). The sctrace Gold can be used with any Metrohm voltammetry measuring stand.
