OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F level meter

• New 2-wire device adds to KROHNE portfolio of TDR guided radar level meters
• 100 m / 328 ft remote converter with full display and configuration capability
• Dynamic Parasite Rejection: Integrated elimination of false reflections caused by disturbances and product build-up

KROHNE introduces the new OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F level meter for liquids and solids at Achema 2012. The 2-wire device adds to the portfolio of TDR guided radar level meters offered by the manufacturer and supplier of solutions in industrial process instrumentation. OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F is based on Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) Technology and developed as a cost-effective device for tank and silo applications with midrange complexity in the chemical industry as well as in the oil and gas, energy, waste water, mining or pulp and paper sectors.

OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F is available with a variety of probes for large measuring ranges in liquids (up to 40 m / 137 ft) and solids (20 m / 66 ft). It can handle process temperatures up to 300°C / +570°F and pressures up to 40 bar / 580 psig. Customers benefit from the software-based Dynamic Parasite Rejection (DPR) technology of the OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F: the integrated DPR technology eliminates dynamically false reflections caused by environmental disturbances and product build-up.

Unlike other level meters the OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F provides a remote convertor that can be installed up to 100 m / 328 ft from the probe. Besides, its snap coupling system permits removal of the housing under process conditions. This coupling system enables the rotation of the housing through 360° to make the display screen easier to read. The level meter complies with the requirement of the safety integrity level SIL 2 and can be used for switch or transmitter function in safety-related systems. The OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F is the latest addition to the popular OPTIFLEX product family and developed as replacement for traditional level meters that require higher maintenance such as displacer, RF capacitance, conductive and pressure level meters.

The OPTIFLEX 2200 C/F uses TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) technology. This state-of-the-art technology measures level independent from physical property variations such as dielectric constants, pressure or density. The TDR level meters are not affected by variations in product characteristics: fitted on a tank or silo roof, the meter transmits low-intensity electromagnetic pulses along its probe. These pulses move at the speed of light. When the pulses reach the surface of the product to be measured, they are reflected with an intensity that depends on the dielectric constant of the product. The device measures the time between emission and reception of the pulse: half of this time is equivalent to the distance from the reference point of the device to the surface of the product. The time value is converted into a current output of 4...20 mA and/or a digital signal and transmitted to the control room.
