Solar Smoke Detector

This eco-friendly solution utilising the latest energy-efficient technology doesn´t need a battery: it is powered by a photovoltaic cell! Normal room illumination is 500 Lux but the smoke alarm only needs a daily illumination of ca. 20 Lux. This is enough to charge the buffer capacity and continue to operate with full functionality for up to 4 days in darkness. Further advantages are the longer lifetime of the photovoltaic cell and the elimination of the influence of temperature on battery life.

The next step will be the integration of the photovoltaic cell into the socket of the smoke alarm: By locating the power source in the socket it will provide the power source for the initial smoke alarm and its 10 year replacement (law in Germany).
