High-performance scientific ­imaging with Andor sCMOS

Co-engineered by Andor Technology, scientific CMOS (sCMOS) is a breakthrough technology based on new generation of image sensor design manufactured by CMOS process. Andor‘s sCMOS is the first true scientific-grade CMOS imager capable of out-performing most scientific imaging devices on the market today.

Andor‘s sCMOS camera brings to researchers an advanced and unique set of performance features that renders it entirely suitable to high fidelity, quantitative scientific measurement. sCMOS stands alone in its ability to simultaneously deliver on many key performance parameters. It has been designed to address and overcome the typical trade-offs that are inherent to current scientific imaging technology standards eradicating the performance drawbacks that have traditionally been associated with conventional CMOS imagers.

Without compromising on read noise or frame rate sCMOS boasts 5.5 megapixel sensor that offers a large field of view and high resolution. The sCMOS device can achieve < 2 e-rms read noise while reading out 5.5 megapixels at 30 frames/s rendering it extraordinary in the research imaging market. Furthermore, the sensor is capable of achieving 100 frames/s with a read noise < 3 e-rms in one of several operating modes the camera offers.

Scientific CMOS technology stands to gain widespread recognition across a broad gamut of demanding imaging applications from various fields including live cell and super resolution microscopy, DNA sequencing and biochip analysis as well as X-ray inspection, astronomy and spectroscopy.
