At this year’s TECHNOPHARM held in Nuremberg in April, KSB Aktiengesellschaft, Frankenthal, Germany, will make a first-time presentation of yet another pump type series for use in the pharmaceutical and food & beverages industries as well as in biotechnology.
Thanks to the use of high-grade steels and electropolished surfaces, the new self-priming Vitaprime pumps are very easy to clean and sterilise by means of CIP/SIP routines. Their excellent cleanability is also attributable to the open impeller and an almost complete lack of dead volume. With all components made of up to six millimetre thick stainless steel, the pumps are of very robust design and the required reliability of the pumps during operation is ensured.
The fact that the new side-channel pumps can be sterilised at a temperature of 140 °C reduces the cleaning frequency to a minimum and makes them suitable for use with food and beverages, as well as with pharmaceuticals. In the standard version, the pumps are designed for a continuous operating temperature of up to 100 °C and 4 bar operating pressure.
Since eight different pump sizes are available, it is possible to select for each application a pump whose operating point is close to the best efficiency point, thus ensuring energy-efficient operation. The pump generates a maximum flow rate of 55 cubic metres per hour and a maximum discharge head of 43 metres.
The clamping ring used to connect pump casing and drive lantern as well as a stub shaft on the up to 15 kW motors which is supported by bearings provide for a high degree of maintenance-friendliness. When the pumps are serviced, there is no need for undoing bolted connections. Owing to the stub shafts, all commercially available standardised motors can be used.
Thanks to the variety of mechanical seal designs and FDA-approved elastomers, the user can choose the new type series for a large number of applications.
