Introducing LAN-XI – Less is More

Providing quality and performance unlike anything seen before, LAN-XI data acquisition hardware’s innovative techniques combined with its flexibility and scalability make it easier than ever to set up your measurements regardless of transducer type, distance between measurement points, and the nature and size of your measurement object.

Imagine using the same equipment to make a multichannel measurement using several large rack systems one day, and a simpler two-channel measurement using a single module the next. With LAN-XI this is reality. You just configure and
reconfigure according to the nature of the test job whether it be in the lab or in the field. One system does it all. And LAN-XI’s backwards compatibility ensures that its multitude of benefits can be enjoyed by the thousands of existing Brüel&Kjær PULSE™ hardware and I-deas users worldwide.

And although LAN-XI modules are designed by award-winning Industrial Designer Steve McGugan, our thoughts behind “less is more” go beyond minimalist and stylish design. For us it has practical, down-to-earth connotations. Fewer errors, fewer cables and less hardware means more accuracy, more flexibility, and more time. Let’s look at exactly what makes this possible.

safe investment

Unlimited Performance – from 2 to more than 1000 Channels
Lessen the risk of your system becoming obsolete. A LAN-XI system can be configured according to your needs. The number of channels and measurement bandwidth is entirely up to you. The Gigabit LAN data backbone supports extreme data throughput and, if this is not enough, the system is designed so that additional networks can run in parallel.

invest in less hardware

One System, More Flexibility

Any module is a measurement system in itself and can be used in a frame, as stand alone or in a distributed system. This means you can place your modules close to the measurement object and the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) makes it possible to synchronise the clocks in the system components with sub-microsecond accuracy.

One-cable Operation
With LAN-XI, cable horror is a thing of the past. Not only do you need fewer cables, but you can now use standard LAN cables for synchronous sampling between modules and system power, thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE). This minimises the number of cables required and results in lower cost, easier maintenance, and greater flexibility of installation.

Built for Field and Lab Use
Use the same hardware in the field and in the laboratory. Rugged and robust, the modules and the detachable front plates are cast in magnesium for maximum stability, light weight, and tough field use. With a longer active life, LAN-XI hardware
guarantees fewer repairs and higher uptime, and being RoHS compliant LAN-XI is prepared for the future.

less time spent doing measurements

Precision Engineering

With characteristic Brüel&Kjær quality, LAN-XI seamlessly integrates unique technologies such as Dyn-X, REq-X and TEDS. As a result, easy setup, no overloads, an expanded frequency range, and optimum all-round performance save not only time but also provide accurate measurement results first time.

less up-front investment

PULSE and I-deas Compatible

Already a PULSE™ or I-deas customer? Don’t worry, we’re not leaving you behind. LAN-XI offers the same AES/EBU synchronisation technique as your existing IDAe hardware, allowing you to combine the two and still maintain sample- and phase-accurate measurements. So you get the latest technology without having to make a major new investment and without having to discard your old hardware.

Silent Operation

Designed for silent operation, the modules are fan-less. Less noise means less measurement disturbance, making it easier to set up the system.

Dyn-X Technology – Exclusive Range from 0 to 160 dB
Dyn-X is an innovative range of state-of-the-art input modules with a single input range from 0 to 10 V and a useful analysis range exceeding 160 dB. To date, high-quality transducers and preamplifiers have outperformed measuring equipment with regard to linearity and dynamic performance, being able to deliver a noise- and distortion-free signal over a dynamic signal range of 120 to 130dB broadband and 160dB narrowband.

Now, with Dyn-X technology, the entire measurement and analysis  chain for the first time matches or outperforms the transducer used  for measurement. This eliminates the need for an input attenuator for ranging the analysis system input to the transducer output. All  that you need to do to get excellent results is choose the right transducer.

less time troubleshooting

Intelligent User Feedback
Measurement problems are easier to fix as each input module has a front-panel display that monitors information on identi- fication and status, has a wide range of overload detection features, and indicates incorrect conditioning. Each module also has its own homepage for storing information. Check, for example, your module’s calibration history via Internet Explorer.

save money with fewer and cheaper cables

Cable Choice is up to You
Interchangeable front panels let you decide which cable type to use and makes swapping transducers easy. So less hardware is needed.
