As already announced on the Embedded World 2008 in Nuremberg the 5’’ VGA TFT’s redesign was brought to perfection in adding new and outstanding features. It was developed by the well known Japanese manufacturer Hitachi who has a good reputation due to their high quality products.
The German distributor “MSC Vertriebs GmbH” presents the advantages and key features of the new TFT on occasion of the introduction on the world market.
The depth of the TX13D03VM1CAA was optimized and according to Hitachi it only measures 5.8mm - the T-Con board excluded. The very slim outline provides the design engineers with various options of mechanical exemption.
The backlight unit is equipped with high-performance LEDs. By an irradiance of 600cd/m² on 25 Celsius degrees their typical lifetime is about 70k hours. Furthermore they provide several advantages, e.g. low heat emission, high color saturation, robustness and shock-vibration capability. An inverter is not required, because of the LED backlight. There is no danger of explosion because of sub pressure in defiance of CCFL tubes. There is no UV radiation and no mercury used inside. The manufacturer built in a driver circuit for simplified dimming within a wide span of brightness. The controller is adjustable by PWM or analogue voltage.
The demand of upside down applications will be satisfied due to the fact of a homogeneous viewing angle from any direction and the integrated flip function.
The typical contrast of the display is 500:1. The direction of the least color inversion is 6 o’clock.
The good transmission plus a smart light guide and despite of the high brightness the very low power consumption amounts to only 3.33W.
The electrical connection to the display is accomplished via only one standard foil flex cable. As consequence of it an additional jack for the backlight is not required any more.
