Atmel presents two new developed transceivers - working according to the wireless standard IEEE 802.15.4 (Distribution: MSC Vertriebs GmbH). They are adapted for ZigBee® applications requiring extremely low-current.
Both devices are operating within the industrial sector’s temperature range. They impress by their optimized power output and high sensitivity.
The link budget of the AT86RF231 is 104 dBm and for the AT86RF212 120 dBm. In a lot of the applications the use of an additional power amplifier could easily be avoided. However by using one, distances above than 3000 m are accessible.
The power supply voltage of 1.8 – 3.6V and extremely low-current support the battery driven applications. The power consumption of the transceivers during the significant sleep modes is 0.02µA. The receiving mode is 13.2mA (AT86RF231) or 9mA (AT86RF212).
The high data transmission rates (212 1Mbit/s; 231 2Mbit/s) assist returning into the low current modes quickly.
Data sheets and samples of the 800/900MHz transceivers AT86RF212 and the 2,4GHz transceivers AT86RF231 are available at MSC Vertriebs GmbH.
