Opto-electronic protective devices have proven themselves in the automation of factories and are established in many machinery concepts. Up to now, the use of these protective devices has not been possible outdoors. However, the most serious accidents occur outdoors. With the OS2000 from Sick, the world's first certified, secure laser scanner system for outdoor use is available. It is suitable for stationary and mobile applications and achieves SIL2 according to EN 62061 and Performance Level d according to ISO 13849-1. The extendable system consisting of operation-tested components can be used in a temperature range from – 30°C to + 50°C and features corrective measures against the influence of mist, snow or rain. OS2000 can be operated with two or three laser scanners, which each monitor a protective field of up to 20 metres.
