flat torque measuring mechanism

Input shaft torque sensor (flex technology), based on sensor telemetry for power trains in cars

The measurement of the dynamic torque between the motor and the manual transmission in cars is becoming increasingly important for the design of the power train, as well as the optimization of the motor control. Calculated torque data from motor controls have often proven to be unreliable. Manner has developed a special technology for refining the input shaft on the gearbox to form a high-quality torque sensor having precision class 0.1. Despite the cramped installation conditions, the input shaft doesn't have to be mechanically changed thanks to the new flex technology. Therefore, the strength and vibration behaviour is not changed.

The key element is the especially flat torque measuring mechanism based on flex technology. The sensor signal amplifier is literally wrapped around the shaft. The entire set-up can be realized adding only 2.5 mm to the shaft diameter. The measuring data of the strain-gauge-based sensor is transmitted wirelessly via the proven digital sensor telemetry technology with 16-bit resolution from Manner. The special feature here is the high temperature stability of 160°C and the high operational stability while the vehicle is running.
