The Geometric Inspection of Work Pieces

VMT GEO is a flexible measuring and inspection system for geometric checking. It uses the data from geometry sensors to assess the characteristics of a work piece that determine its quality.
In this procedure the acquisition of the surface geometry is largely independent of the colour and brightness of the work piece.
The system supports local checks on extended work pieces and includes a connection to the process control system in addition to an easily handled checking management system.

The following options are provided for the monitoring of component surfaces:

• Sensor fixed, test object moving
• Sensor motion about linear and rotational axes, test object fixed
• Sensor on a robot, test object fixed
  

When checking very fine structures, which demand a sensor with a high resolution, with a correspondingly small sensor measuring range, the system can be series-connected with the VMT 3D position detection system. In this way the sensor can even be precisely positioned on large objects, irrespective of the positional tolerance of the work piece being checked.
