The new piston telemetry of Manner Sensor telemetry has become an important tool for the development of pistons, verification of the mechanical strength and the optimisation of the lubrication process. The multi channel system records online the temperature at important points at the piston. The data are the base for the analysis of the temperature distribution at different load scenarios and for the optimisation of the geometry of the piston. The system uses robust and simple-to-mount thermocouples that are able to resist the increasing grade of vibrations.
The sensor signal amplifier is mounted at the piston (180°C) and scans the temperature measuring points once a piston stroke and transmits the data to the stationary evaluation unit. The contact-less transmission needs no batteries. The signal transmission at BDC makes a simple mounting possible. Due to the inductive and maintenance-free transmission technique the runtime of the system is nearly unlimited.
The design of the 8 channel measuring amplifier is very small (21 x 12 x 5mm), weighs about 3 grams and can be used in a temperature range up to 180°C.
