Liquorice extract powder

The source material of licorice extract, licorice root (Glycyrrhiza Glabra), grows in various countries, including Iran, China, Turkey, Russia and Italy. The chemical specifications, flavour and aroma of this voluntary plant are affected by climatic conditions.

The chief characteristics of the Iranian variety are the high content of glycyrrhicine, a pleasant taste and an intense aroma. More than 95 percent of the licorice extract produced annually in Iran, amounting to more than 4,700 tons, is exported to Europe.

Our productipn plant

Our production facility is located in the north-western part of Iran, a region whose most valuable resource is its excellent licorice plants. In this region the plants are grown naturally without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Our extraction plant was established in Iran in the middle of 2002 and complies with the latest international standards. Our 50 members’ team takes care of everything: purchasing, producting and quality controlling.

Thanks to new machines and the high quality of our raw materials we can supply our clients with very high quality products. Approximately 800 tons of licorice extract are produced annually at our facility. As a result we are able to supply even large amounts within a short time and serve our customers individually.

Arriving by trucks at our factory, the licorice roots have 45-55 % moisture which needs to be reduced to 10 % before processing starts. Thus, the roots are spread out evenly on a level surface and dried naturally with the air. After they have finished drying, the roots are transported to the processing lines.

The production process
The roots are chopped up coarsely by machines and then transported with rollers to the boiling department. In the first step of the process the licorice root is decocted and then pressed out and filtered. After being prepared, the substance is concentrated and evaporated. This thickened substance is either filled into special cans, pulverized by a continuous spray drying method or pressed into blocks.

Applications and Certificates
Licorice extract is used in the confection industry for producing licorice products, such as candies, toffees etc. Because of its expectorant qualities it is not only used in the pharmaceutical industry but in addition in the beverage and tobacco industries.

The certified quality of our product not only conforms to the Iranian national standards ISIRI (Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran) but also meets the international standards ISO 9001 (SGS Switzerland), ISO 14001 (SGS-ICS Hamburg) and HACCP (SGS).

We offer licorice extract in three different forms:

Licorice block
contains 5 or 8 blocks wrapped in polyethylene and is packed in cardboard boxes, weighing 25 kg. The amount of glycyrrhicine is usually between 20 – 22%.

Licorice powder
is packed in 20-25 kg bags – with a double polyethylene inner lining and a double polypropylene outer lining. The amount of glycyrrhicine can be regulated between 5 – 25%, depending on our customers’ needs.

Licorice paste
(Semiliquid) is normally delivered in cans which have a net weight of 80 kg, but other volumes from 25 kg to 1000 kg are also available. The density of the licorice paste is usually between 55-60 % but can be changed to meet the needs of our customers.

The newest specification and latest microbiological test of our licorice products can be downloaded from our website. We also deliver other qualities and packaging sizes upon request.
