Analytical equipment for quality and environmental protection
Quality control in production as well as the observation of increasingly low limit values for emissions are unimaginable without advanced analytical processes. Most of the units, which become more and more expensive, comprise very sophisticated internal parts and require high-purity gases as process or calibration gas at constantly high quality levels.
Air Liquide offers pure gases in two qualities in order to ensure the smooth operation of laboratory and analytical processes. For routine applications, ALPHAGAZ 1 (purity 99.999 %) can be used whereas ALPHAGAZ 2 (purity 99.9999 %) was developed for special analytical tasks with high requirements to accuracy of their results. Process gas mixtures (such as helium/hydrogen; argon/methane) are available under the name ALPHAGAZ MIX in qualities adjusted to the respective application.
ALPHAGAZ AUTO was custom-made for the requirements of the automobile industry: ALPHAGAS AUTO IV for nitrogen, synthetic air and oxygen for raw gas analyses on test benches and ALPHAGAZ AUTO V for nitrogen and synthetic air for analysing diluted gas emissions and for the use on test benches verifying compliance with Euro standard 5. Additionally ALPHAGAZ MIX consisting of 40 % hydrogen in helium is used as fuel gas in flame ionisation detectors. All ALPHAGAZ products are offered by any subsidiary of the Group in a standardised way.

A separate cylinder stock was created for ALPHAGAZ used exclusively for supplying gases to customers of the laboratory and analyses industry. Thanks to the blue shell and the white head, the cylinders can be easily distinguished from those of other gas types. Products for analytical applications can thus be stored and delivered without the risk of mixing them up with other products.
A valve protection in the shape of a cage, which cannot be removed, increases the safety in handling the special ALPHAGAZ cylinders. The cylinders are equipped with residual pressure/non-return valves in order to reliably avoid any contamination of their contents and subsequent operating problems of the customer.
Protective caps around the connecting thread keep contaminations away from the valve area and ensure the integrity of the products upon delivery thanks to their tamper-evident design. The unmistakable product label contains all pieces of information important for the user. Furthermore, the batch code also indicated on this label ensures the traceability of the cylinder contents back to the filling station.

The ALPHAGAS purifier was developed for applications with extremely high requirements to purity. It is used in case the supplied purity is not yet sufficient or the product is subsequently contaminated via the pipes or fittings. The purifier is able to remove contaminants such as oxygen and moisture down to a level of a few ppb (parts per billion = 10-9).
