Bundesdruckerei has developed a new mobile device for checking ID documents and individuals. "Visotec Mobile 100" is handy, multi-functional and very easy to use. It was specifically developed for use by the police, for example, on patrol, and by border control officers for checks at "green borders". Other applications include harbours, airports, construction sites or large events.
"Visotec Mobile 100" can read not just passports, but all ICAO-compliant, machine-readable documents, such as ID cards or the German ID card format. Furthermore, the device can read the contactless chip in electronic documents and display the data stored therein. The customary methods for checking ID documents are supported via a public key infrastructure (PKI). The new, mobile Visotec unit, which was developed for the international market, comes with a fingerprint sensor, so that individuals can also be identified on the basis of their biometric features.
Police officers and staff at public authorities with security tasks today expect to be able to receive information concerning suspects at any time and independent of stationary equipment. Queries, for example, from wanted-persons databases, were so far sent by radio from the patrol car to the police station. "Visotec Mobile 100" enables mobile and secure database queries via the GSM/GPRS network, and a future version of the unit will also be available with a UMTS module. There is no other device on the market which offers such comprehensive functionalities with dimensions as small as those of "Visotec Mobile 100".
"Visotec Mobile 100" is another member of the document checking family from Bundesdruckerei. With these devices which are in use in countries around the world, such as the Ukraine, the Emirate of Dubai, Luxembourg, Lithuania or Venezuela, the company is contributing towards the prevention of identity fraud. One special feature of the Visotec devices is the fact that the documents are automatically read and checked once the documents are placed on the unit without the need for any further user intervention. The documents are checked for authenticity on the basis of a comprehensive database which currently includes around 650 reference ID documents from countries all over the world. Furthermore, the units also support the verification of individuals and documents in order to detect whether a document actually belongs to an individual, as well as the identification of individuals, for example, when trying to enter specially protected security areas.
"Visotec Mobile 100" is another link in the ID system chain. No other company in the world is currently able to implement the complete ID value process, from digital application for an ID document via high-security document production right through to reading and checking processes. In conjunction with the signature and PKI solutions of the company's subsidiary D-Trust as well as personalisation equipment from Maurer Electronics GmbH, Bundesdruckerei is a one-stop supplier of complete, demand-orientated systems for ID security applications.
