Car park management and traffic surveillance

The Vehicle Detector has been developed by the Potsdam-based specialist in 3D video-analysis software and has increased the quality in vehicle-identification significantly. The intelligent 3D software automatically detects approaching objects even under difficult light and weather conditions. The software identifies the vehicles, reads international license plate numbers and evaluates them on the basis of an integrated database.

The system consists of several complementing parts: a video capture card to capture the video-data, the video-analysis software that identifies vehicles, a detection-software that extracts the license plate information, a management software that configures and activates further interfaces and a database that saves all information. The system is available as plug&play product, but can also easily be integrated into existing third-party systems.

Car park management

The vehicle detector allows an easy access and exit control for car parks. The license plates are automatically read in 6 seconds on up to 4 tracks simultaneously and the information is compared with the existing data. Consequently, the arrival and exit time, together with a photo, is recorded. The personnel can access the data at all times and verify exact arrival or exit times or search for vehicles with regard to a particular license plate or specific times. This allows car park operators to detect fraud such as “lost tickets” or identify departing cars the license of which does not correspond to the ticket.

Access control

Also the access to industrial premises or private car parks can easily be monitored. If access is permitted, barriers or other systems can automatically be operated. If not, the security staff is informed or an automatic alarm is generated. The primary control unit has the choice to view the events either in a live-stream or layout modus, the latter of which gives an overview of the entire site. In addition, certain paths can be blocked or made accessible for mechanics or other groups of persons. Also the exit of a vehicle at unusual times can be detected and reported. The automatic counter permanently displays the state of occupation and the number of free slots.

Traffic surveillance

Also the public sector benefits from the integration of video-analysis software into existing cameras. For instance, the Vehicle Detector can be applied in order to identify vehicles on restricted lanes such as bus- and taxi-lanes. The license plates of such vehicles are automatically captured and saved in a database for consequent pursuit.

At the same time, the software enables the tracking of lost or stolen vehicles without additional personnel expenses. The manual search for stolen vehicles on highly trafficked car parks or streets requires high employment of staff and is little successful. The Vehicle Detector compares the detected license plates in video streams with those of stolen vehicles and automatically raises alarm. This allows for a large number of vehicles to be controlled within short time.
