Easy Field Collection of DNA

The FTA technology is the ideal method for collecting DNA from biological samples quickly and easily for analysis. DNA samples can be collected under a variety of circumstances by untrained personnel in the field or at other remote settings. Simply place a drop of blood or buccal on the FTA card, which is made of a chemically-treated paper that extracts the DNA from the sample. Once bound to the FTA card the DNA can be held at ambient temperature for transport back to a laboratory or stored for long term at room temperature for later analysis. Sample preparation with FTA is a simple 3 step process: spot the sample, punch a disk of the card and purify the DNA for PCR based an-alysis. FTA is simply the method of choice for field collection of animal blood or buccal samples.
