Square pixels via FPGA now also for color images

Industrial image processing frequently makes it necessary to calculate the distance of objects in a camera image. If a frame grabber delivers square pixels directly, the algorithm is simpler and executable in less time.
Due to television standards, especially color frame grabbers only allow the  realization of square pixels with the assistance of additional algorithm processes.
As the latest development in the series of professional frame grabber cards available from ELTEC Elektronik AG, the p3i_SEC, among others, also offers square pixels directly. At the hardware end, the camera data proportions are already
calculated for the analysis in real time on the card. To accomplish this, ELTEC utilizes a discretionarily programming block (FPGA), which can also be utilized for the implementation of similar tasks. In choosing the FPGA-technology, the  manufacturer is betting on flexibility at the hardware end (to be more specific, on discretionarily programmable hardware), which also makes it possible to provide
customer-specific solutions for OEMs even in small series production.

In addition, the p3i_SEC frame grabber offers the following performance features:
  • Recording of analog color camera data in PAL/NTSC/SECAM (CVBS)
  • 16 parallel inputs, one AD converter per channel a On-board-scaling 1:1 to 1:8
  • Real-time acquisition of individual sequences or images loaded directly to the PC hard disk via DMA
  • Image memory formats: monochrome at 8 or color at 16/32 bits/pixel
  • 3-channel DMA for processing of up to 3 parallel images
  • Optional JPEG compression in real time
  • DLL driver for Windows 98SE/ME/NT/2000/XP in development
  • Driver for LINUX
  • PCI 2.2 compatible
