Olympus analySIS family launched to meet exacting industrial quality requirements

Olympus has launched the new analySIS family of specialised image processing solutions for materials inspection applications within a wide range of industries. This unified collection of powerful software tools and imaging systems provides a fully flexible and modular family of Olympus imaging products. Comprising five members (start, work, docu, auto & pro), the analySIS family ranges from basic image acquisition and documentation software through to complete automatic inspection systems. The analySIS family also includes application-specific comprehensive solutions; the Inspector series and specially designed digital cameras.

Digital microscopy and image-processing technologies play a major role in industrial quality and process assurance, reducing effort required for manual and visual tasks and optimising processes. The digital approach of the analySIS family provides significantly higher objectivity and reproducibility compared to conventional inspection methods. The results are more precise, more reliable and are obtained faster. Structured archiving and automatic reporting of these results to industrial specifications ensure the period fixed for industrial documentation and data storage requirements.

The analySIS family offers flexible and high-performance software solutions for materials testing laboratories performing the following tasks: acquiring and processing images digitally; analysing, evaluating and archiving them; managing related documents and finally generating reports. All family members are easy to use for image analysis applications, such as layer thickness and roughness measurements, micro hardness testing, chart navigation and grain size analysis, amongst many others.
The individual analySIS series of software products have a common range of functions. Each successive member of this flexible and modular series is an expansion of its respective predecessor. This makes it easy for users to adjust their system to meet new requirement profiles as applications change.

At the foundation of the analySIS family, analySIS start offers a high-performance system for image acquisition and complete software control of camera and microscope. Using analySIS start, perfect images are acquired, particles counted, dimensions measured, distances calculated all at the push of a button. Alongside analySIS start functions, analySIS work meets users needs for all elementary metallography tasks. In addition to image acquisition functions, analySIS work has an extended range of interactive measurement functions, as well as structured archiving and professional report generation

analySIS docu is the most comprehensive documentation member of the analySIS family. This offers numerous further image acquisition and image display functions, in addition to all the functions offered by analySIS work. This includes acquiring images at infinite depth of focus and 3-D visualisation functions. analySIS auto offers many functions for particle-oriented image analysis with multifaceted classification options. Furthermore, fully automated execution of analysis sequences with full stage control is supported, meaning that recurring tasks can be repeated at the click of a button.

At the top end of the Olympus analySIS product series, analySIS pro undertakes complex image analysis tasks effortlessly and automatically. New techniques for tracking objects, as well as for particle analysis using line-intercept methodology, are included. analySIS pro also offers an integrated software development environment.

Application oriented software extensions

To enable users to undertake a variety of applications within both research and development, as well as process control environments, a range of add-ons are available. The functionality of all analySIS series members, starting with analySIS docu, can be extended using specific application-oriented software modules, e.g. cast iron analysis, grain size analysis etc.

Complete automatic inspection systems

Based on the analySIS family of software solutions, the analySIS Inspector series has been designed to fully automate and solve very specific tasks, such as filter and non metallic inclusion inspection. analySIS software with hardware components, including microscope, digital camera, motorised stage and controller, make up these complete automatic inspection systems.
The precisely attuned Olympus hardware and software components yield results with far greater precision and reproducibility than would be feasible using conventional systems.
