Innovative 9-channel MPEG-2 DVR

JVC launched the extremely versatile VR-509E digital video recorder. The unit can record in two modes. In the first mode it can record to a DVD in a proprietary format. In the second mode, it can record to domestic video format which enables the playback on any domestic DVD player. Since the DVD is in a consumer format, it provides a quick and incredibly cost-effective way for video evidence to be presented and utilized by any video security system. The VR-509E is also one of the first in the industry to integrate a time and date stamp within the video image. This means that at the point of transfer from the hard disc drive (HDD) to DVD the time and date stamp is recorded and viewable even on a normal domestic DVD player avoiding erasure or fabrication. The MPEG-2 compression achieves high quality pictures and high-density recording at up to 100 frames per second. This recording includes two channels of audio and it can accept up to 9 cameras. Recording is achieved on a 320GB hard disk drive that can be upgraded with an additional 500GB external drive.
