New benchmark in color image reproduction

Ettlingen – At the VISION 2005 trade fair in Stuttgart, Vision Components pre-sented the VC2065EC, the first intelligent camera with 24 bit true color SVGA image display and innovative imaging. The Smart Camera features a 1/2“ CCD color sensor with a resolution of 782 x 592 pixels. It can be triggered internally or externally and provides a frame rate of 45 fps.

Using a newly developed technique, the color sensor‘s Bayer pattern is processed and converted to 24 bit RGB. The resulting resolution (lines per millimeter) is nearly equivalent to the image recorded by a black and white camera with a comparable CCD, thereby surpassing conventional methods. Additionally, the VC2065EC ensures an im-proved reproduction of lines and highly reduced color artifacts. It also offers the new option to display color images in a variety of modes (Bayer pattern, grey image, RGB and YCbCr) in real time on a connected SVGA monitor.

Like all other VC20xx camera models, the VC2065EC features a freely programmable TMS320C6211 DSP and comes equipped with 16 MB of program and image memory, 2 MB Flash EPROM, a 32 MB Multimedia Card, an Ethernet interface as well as 4 PLC inputs and 4 PLC outputs. A color processing software library and a free-of-charge seminar program are also available.
