By testing different mixtures of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, characterization by high resolution optical microscopy, SEM EDX, ICPOES, ICPMS, efficient antimicrobial mixtures were developed that are bound to the polymer surfaces by sol gel methodology, resulting in an antibacterial coating with possible application in medical textiles, medical polymer surfaces, bandages, catheters and others.
Chemometrics and mathematical modeling were applied to optimize the formulae and find the most effective, which managed to destroy golden bacteria resistant to antibiotics, such as MRSA.
